Body odor is caused by sweat. Naturally, sweat is the body’s cooling mechanism, in which evaporation causes the lowering of body temperature. However, sweating in abundance provides breeding ground for microorganisms, which multiply and produce unwanted odor.
Hence, controlling body odor rests from being able to keep our sweating in check. These are some tips to get rid or reduce unwanted body odor:
1. Maintain proper hygiene. Proper hygiene could prevent body odor. It is important to take a bath once a day in order to wash off sweat, and eliminate microorganisms living from it. If you are living in a particularly hot and humid climate, take a bath twice a day – one in the morning and another one in the evening.
2. Introduce dietary changes. Some food, such as very spicy dishes, also affect body odor. Try cutting the consumption of these kinds of food.
3. Regularly use a deodorant. Many sweat glands are concentrated in the armpit area. Predictably, the armpits contribute a lot to body odor. Use an unscented roll-on deodorant for these parts of the body. You can also purchase body sprays that also deodorize. Deodorants also come in powder form. Use a deodorant that is of the right strength and is fit for your daily activities.
4. Use natural fabrics. Natural fabrics allow your skin to breathe and also allow the moisture from your body to evaporate. Use clothes which are made from cotton, especially on hot and humid days. This tip also works if you get exposed to the sun a lot.
5. If all else fails, consult a dermatologist. Excessive sweating may cause your body odor, which is a fairly normal bodily condition. And this may be remedied by special medication or minor surgery that would close off some of your sweat glands. Consult a dermatologist and know what the real deal is about your excessive sweating.
